The Artist’s Way
a 12 week course to remedy creative block and uncover your artistic potential
About The Artist's Way
Julia Cameron’s seminal best-selling book, first published in 1992 has been read by millions and is cited as the spark ignite many the artistic idea, project, career change or life-shift . The course guides readers in locating problems and pressure points that may be restricting their creative flow and offers techniques to open up opportunities for growth and self-discovery. As the book explains: you do not have to learn how to be more creative; but instead you need to free your natural creativity.

The sessions
Each session we will review the week’s chapter with visuals and discussion points. There will be assignments and exercises and the sessions will be bookended with personal check-ins and check-outs.
It is very common for people embarking on The Artist's Way alone to slope off at around week 3 and not complete it - but as part of a small group you will benefit from peer support, community and accountability.

What You will Need
To take part you will need an open mind, and a copy of the book. The key exercises in The Artist's Way are daily Morning Pages and a weekly Artist’s Date, and you'll want some additional time for other exercises and assignments in the week - 5 hours outside of the sessions is a rough ballpark.
The more that you are able to put into the process, the more that you will get out of it; BUT I am very much of the belief that the experience needs to work for you and your life - self-flagellation about ‘getting behind’ isn't helpful and we should use this creativity tool creatively!

Who is this for?
The course is open to those in professional creative careers, to those who are already familiar with the book to those who don’t consider themselves to be artistic at all. And remember, it's never too late to start.

About Me
I am a musician and music-maker and have had many creative pursuits - as a theatre director, script editor, comedy director, photographer. The Artist's Way was pivotal in my journey becoming a professional musician and I continue to use the lessons and practices from the book in my daily life. I have facilitated several rounds of The Artist's Way, finding greater depths each time, and find deep joy in being able to ‘pass it on’ to other people.

Previous participants feedback
‘Elly is such a brilliant guide - compassionate, humorous and knowledgable. Her palpable love of creativity is inspiring, and participating in this course has opened up a space for playfulness and openness in my creative life.’ Rosie
‘A sort of self-help art therapy book club….Elly you have been an amazing facilitator for this space to allow us to feel heard and supported through this creative journey of discovery!’ Izzy
‘The experience has been very timely for me and incredibly impactful. As well as nurturing creativity it’s inviting a radical change of attitude to oneself. It’s given me confidence where I lacked, and increased my self-worth. I felt incredibly seen and supported in this group, and valued. And utterly inspired! I didn’t want it to end and cannot recommend it enough. It’s grounding, nourishing, challenging, but worth every hurdle.’ Abby
‘Something magical happens when you carve out time to go through the process as a group, I would have never been so committed to reading the chapters, the Morning Pages and Artist Dates without the support of the group and I feel very lucky. The effect of doing this course lasts way beyond the 12 weeks and I’m so grateful for Elly’s thoughtful holding of the group and interactive sessions, we all felt very safe and supported throughout’. Rosy
‘An incredible experience bringing together people from all walks of life - whether you're an artist by "profession" or as a "hobby" Elly creates an amazing environment where those boundaries are blurred and it becomes a powerful and fun group experience nurturing a colourful and supportive community - you feel like a warm and special group of friends by the end! ‘ Jo
